The Resource Fund aims to achieve long-term capital appreciation by investing primarily in the equity securities of Canadian resource issuers.
Investment Strategy:

The Resource Fund’s investment strategy will entail initially investing in shares of resource issuers engaged in oil and gas or mining exploration, development or production or energy production, including alternative energy production such as from wind, and that (i) have experienced management; (ii) have a strong exploration program in place; (iii) may require time to mature; and (iv) offer potential for future growth.  It is anticipated that the resource issuers will include a significant number of junior resource issuers.  The Resource Fund may also invest in corporate debt, government bonds (capital preservation) or small exposures to small capitalization companies (high growth) throughout the world, including Canada and the U.S.

Jerome Hass

Jerome has over sixteen years experience in the financial industry. He joined Lightwater from Epic Capital Management in Toronto, one of Canada’s most prominent hedge funds.  Previously, he was a Portfolio Manager and Head of International Equities at Montrusco Bolton Investments in Montreal, where he managed $450 million directly, co-managed large global funds, and oversaw $1 billion in private wealth.  Mr. Hass also worked as a Portfolio Manager in London, England for Canada Life Assurance Company.  He started on the buy-side at Scottish Amicable Investment Managers in Scotland.  Mr. Hass also worked as a sell-side Analyst with HSBC Investment Bank in Singapore and Malaysia. He began his career in Toronto as an Economist with the Ontario Government at the Ministry of Finance. He holds a Bachelor degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Arts in Applied Economics from the University of Victoria as well as a Master of Science degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, and is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst ("CFA") designation. 
 

Thomas Schenkel

Mr. Schenkel has over fifteen years of experience in the financial industry with extensive experience in the hedge fund space.   Mr. Schenkel has conducted research focused on Canadian equities for a U.K. based firm and was President and Portfolio Manager at Epic Capital Management Inc., a leading Canadian long short fund.  He got his start in the financial business at BMO Nesbitt Burns in the equity research department.  After two years in mining research, Mr. Schenkel became a Special Situations Analyst, covering a number of consumer product and industrial product companies.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from Queen’s University, a Master of Arts in Business Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) designation. 
 

Bryan Nunnelley

Mr. Nunnelley has over six years of experience in the financial industry and has considerable experience with strategic planning, operations and investor relations.  He has worked in investment banking and private equity and was Vice President, Strategic & Corporate Development, of a Canadian based life-sciences company.  He holds a M.A. in International Affairs - Global Finance, Multinationals & the State; International Trade Policy from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs in Ottawa, and graduated with a B.A. in Business & Commerce, Sociology from Dalhousie University.
